| ＜For the protect of Koala＞ There are road signs which have two numbers were written up and down in Port Steaves.(I couldn't take a pictures driving a car). The up number the numbers of dead Koalas on this year, the lower number is the numbers of dead last year. A tour conducter told us that the number of Koala's dead was 26 last year(2009). Their dead were by traffic accident and to be bitten by dogs. About 100 of Koalas are killed for a year by traffic accident and being bitten by dogs. Now the gaverment of Australia is protecting Koalas as endangered species. |

＜The etymology of the koalas＞ The name of Koala by the language of aborigine means they don't drink water. They don't drink any water, and they get water from the leaf of the eucalyptus. There are 3 kind of koalas in Australia. If you go to the south, the size of koalas become bigger and koala's hair are longer. So the koalas in Port Steaves are average size and length. ＜The hair of koalas＞ If you can look koala's hair by the microscope, you can find it curly like a coil. The curly hair protect their body from cold and rain. |
